Blogging SOAP BOX - Grrrrr

Its been a few days since my last post. There's no focal point for my blog entry today that targets anyone specific. This is a rambling GRRRR-fest about my blogging experiences.

This blog needs to be kept from becoming stale, something that just irritates me about some others.
I speak of those that I discover, fall in love with and then......hear the internet crickets chirp...the cyber-wind whispering through the motionless circuitry branches amongst the computer chip landscape.....hear...nothing...read.....the same entry for MONTHS!!! After awhile, you stop checking in. Why bother?
So, when said blogger finally returns and has something to say...No One Visits to See!!! Picture their words boucing off canyon walls of disinterest. How sad is that?

So NOT going to happen to me.
There's one blog I visit frequently that tells us readers that there's going to be a hiatus....and an estimate of time it will last. I so appreciate that. There's another blog that actually has someone come in as a guest blogger so entries can continue. Its kept me coming back and I've enjoyed the two different writing styles.

I make this promise...it's in writing here so it seems to me that it's binding. If I think I'm not going to post for an extended length of time......I'll let you know..not just disappear.
It wouldn't be very smart of me to be my own pet peeve now, would it?

Another.... annoyance, is when a reader posts a comment ( or many comments over time)
and the comment is NEVER acknowledged. There was one blog where that seemed the case. And I repeat.."seemed".
Example: I followed this one particular blog for 2 months..(at least).. and just the other day... a blog entry was dedicated to ME!! Jumpin' Jelly Beans! Really! That just got me all warm and squooshy all over. So, although I won't see any responses...and I now accept that about this particular blog...I am content to "know" that my comments ARE read. I can live with that.

*ahem* No, I don't expect blogs to be dedicated to me now. It'd be NICE.....*grin*, but nope. It was a beautiful anomaly.

And for those that might think..."Hey, I didn't write my blog just for comments." OK. Good Point.
However, Blogger provides options to prevent comments from being left..or you can specify and tailor it for a "select" group of invitees. If you don't want comments at all...shut it off.
If you leave your options open, expect someone, sometime, to post a comment.
Consider it a compliment, not a hassle.
And I ask, as a courtesy, throw me a bone and say "Thanks for visiting!' How hard is that???
*sigh*
ALRIGHT! Someone's thinking.."I don't HAVE to DO anything! It's my blog. What law is there that says I have to say anything to anyone?!"
*smacks hand to forehead*
There is no law.
None.
You'd be right.
BUT, courtesy is a wonderful component of a civilized human society. We ALL benefit with its use.

Now that I've vented...go on....I can take it. Throw your worst comments back at me. Tell me I'm being unrealistic or that I'm full of hot air, or get a grip......
But check back to my description under my Blog title.....this is also a place to use as a sounding board...and I just "sounded off".

Do I feel better? Yes..
If you've read all the way down to this point...THANK YOU.
In appreciation, I present this:

A little old lady goes to the doctor and says, "Doctor I have this
problem with gas, but it really doesn't bother me too much. My farts
never smell and are always silent. As a matter of fact, I've farted at
least 20 times since I've been here in your office. You didn't know I
was farting because they don't smell and they are silent."

The doctor says, "I see. Take these pills and come back to see me next
week."

The next week the lady comes back. "Doctor," she says, "I don't know
what the hell you gave me, but now my farts... although still silent..
stink terribly!"

The doctor says, "Good. Now that we've cleared up your sinuses, let's
work on your hearing."

Lastly:

If big breasted women work at Hooters
Where do one legged women work??

. (Give up?)

I HOP

Have a nice Thursday!

LOL!
I just realized my last words on my previous post said that:
"No being snarky, or crabby about anyone or anything.......much. (have to give myself a loop-hole *wink*)"

Wow!, Didn't take me long to jump through THAT loophole!!! Hahaha!!

There is no law.
None.

There are blogs and there are personal journals. Sometimes a people think they're doing the first, but are really doing the second. I think there are rules to successful blogs. You've nailed the first, Michele. RESPOND TO ALL COMMENTS (proviso, except if you're wildly successful as get like 60 comments a post, then just TRY). Second, comment on other blogs. If you don't have something to say, think harder! Getting acknowledgement makes the work a pleasure.

There are more rules, of course, but those two are the most important.

Gee, Thanks Jason!!
I thought for sure I'd be ducking cyber-pie from someone.

You are right on when you say
" Getting acknowledgement makes the work a pleasure"

I believe that too. The adage, "Give and it comes back to you tenfold" may not have been written with blogging in mind (well, we all KNOW it wasn't)but it can be applied here as well. Uncanny thing about truth. It is an adaptable application.
Cool
Thanks for stopping by Jason!!!

Dang!, Muh-muh, when you type it like that..My comments section is going to break the sound barrier!

Thanks for visiting me!
*grin* You're too much!

See, I think blogs can be both. In fact, I tend to really enjoy blogs that make me feel as if I know the person behind the keyboard. That's an illusion, of course, but one I embrace.

Just MHO. :)

Michele said...

Hello there Avindair!!
Thank you for honoring my humble blog with your visit.

Yep, I agree, they can be both.
I enjoy "meeting" different people and thier views.
Opens up the world, don't you think?

Let me clarify. By "personal journal," I mean a blog which generally goes unread by the public because the author doesn't put out the effort to get and keep readers. Authors of these "personal journals" appear to be fine with that situation, however, because the stagnation of their blog doesn't inspire them to change.

An example of what I'm talking about is a blog which gets updated once every 10 days and no comments (as few as they may be) get acknowledged.

Michele said...

Hi again Jason.
I appreciate the clarification.
Guess I'm not a "personal journal"..thats good,
I like company. :-)

And I think that if I let 10 days go between posts..that would meet the criteria in my blog post today of an extended absence. I'd leave a message.

I'm SO happy you came to visit today..
Thanks!

Nice rant, Michele. :)

I'm guilty of not always acknowledging comments. Sometimes I read them in my email and think, "I'll comment on that in a little bit" then never do.

And there are lots of blogs I read that I don't comment on. I've read yours for a while but finally felt compelled to comment the other day.

Well, I hope I never tick you off!*Whehw* I know I hate visiting a blog regularly and it will have new posts regularly and then all of a sudden...a month before a new post. With no warning!
Which reminds me, I haven't set a new post in a couple of days. Therefore, I will go forth and do so!

Well, now I'm thinking, "Is it me?" I hadn't posted for almost 2 weeks because I've been up to my eyeballs in essays, committee meetings, family issues, etc. And I certainly don't reply to every comment made, but I try to reply to most of them.

You have put the fire under me, though. I've felt so guilty in the last week that I haven't blogged much, that I've been thinking of a new top ten list.

Michele said...

Howdy Hi, Mel!

"Nice rant", oooh, I like the sound of that..sure beats ducking cyber-pie :-)

I'm super thrilled that you finally did say 'hi' to me.
Of course, now curious kitty has her headed tilted to the side, wondering just what did the "compelling"....?
You don't have to share if you don't want to....I'm just happy to be able to say HI back to YOU!!!!
TTFN!

Michele said...

Brandy...too funny. I can't imagine you ticking ANYONE off.
Well, except the inlaws *giggle*

Ah, so you've had the experience of the black hole in blogdom too...there's one site that has been quiet for 3 months! And the jokes he used to post were a riot.
*sigh*, I miss that site being active.....:-(

But yours is good!! :-)
Love your kitties!!

Michele said...

LOL, Kelli!!
Of course it's NOT you!!!
Good gravy, I know a teachers life is hectic and with a holiday coming and the end of the first semester bearing down on you..it's gotta take up oodles of time.
Remember, I did say this was a rambling Grrr-fest. Most of the ones I mentally were referring to were ones that I do not have links for on my blog. When someone is on my links...its because...well, they've earned my adoration!
There's a few that are heading there now. Notice , you ARE in my links...sooo..Go have fun Kelli!
And Watch out for those Shark-Deer!!! LOL

Kelli McBride said...

Whew! I'm so glad! Though I was serious about feeling such a slouch for not having posted anything new in almost 2 weeks. I even would go to the blog and sit in front of my monitor trying to think of something to blog about. But I would be so tired, I just didn't have the energy to blog about the important stuff, and no idea of something fluffy to toss off. :-)

Michele said...

Salutations Gangadhar!!!
Thanks for your comment.
LOL - Great minds think alike!!
Appreciating you letting me know
:-)

Michele said...

That's OK Kelli,
As far as being tired...yep, happens to me too.
Thats why , when I'm in the same dilemma, I post a joke or two that gets sent to me via email from my friends. Helps me over the hump.

Like this post..I started with the intention of a small paragraph of opinion...blew up into a full-blown theatrical rant. Sometimes you never know when the words will take over...Still waiting for that to happen in writing my story!!
I think it IS easier to write from what you know...but I don't know much about my idea I'm working on so I'm reading Science books , Latin Dictionaries and stuff. I can't wait until I "know" and the words spring from my fingers!! Woohoo!
Have an awesome Weekend Kelli!tingimontoat

>>what did the compelling?<<

Probably the Makers Mark. I'd had a couple of Makers and Diet Cokes and I get a little chatty then. LOL

Too funny.

Hail Makers Mark!!!

I'll be much more sporadic while I have this temp job. But maybe just when you thought you had seen the last of me, I'll show up. LOL. ;)

Michele said...

Egadz!! I think so many of my favorite blog people think when they don't post for a few days, I mean them...**surprised goggle**

NOPE! No way!!
And Most Definitely Not you Annalee..I've read your blog and I'm excited for you about the new job. Sporadic is fine!
((Oh! Did you win the Smooch Award?))

It'll be a treat when you "show up".....

I meant sites that haven't posted anything for 2 - 3 months. Or another where I've commented on for 2 months and nada/zippo/ nothing gets acknowledged. Even when they make a new post, they never, ever, make mention of the comment.
I wasn't talking about fellow artists who are taking a hiatus to listen to their muse, or life takes its rightful place in their priorities. They usually let us readers know.
But those are the ones that LIKE comments.
I'm thinking that those that fit my first 2 parameters are people who do not want comments and have no intention of replying. To them I say, do us blog surfers a favor and turn the comment option off.

It's more humane. Or at least courteous.

That's my opinion and I'm sticking to it *wink*

Mental note: must keep updating my blog.
