Old Fashioned Love, GAG!! Choke!!

These are the covers from "Romance Comics" 1959 and 1960 respectively. You can't find love for 10 cents these days!!! And I'll tell you....I'm glad we've come a LONG way from the romance senarios that are depicted in these volumes.

Here's one of the examples:

A woman who gets turned down twice because she mentions...*gasp*, marriage and the guys can't get away from her fast enough. (literally, one jumped out of horse and buggy in a park) She becomes a Man Hater!!!...grrr...Feel her roar... *roll the eyes here folks* The happy ending is with the very first guy who dumped her ..."I was a young fool" "Oh, " she says" I was childish too.." Come ON Woman!!! So what happens? He makes a move to kiss her, she rebuffs him, he gets a scowl on his face and turns away.. Immediately she jumps up..."Wait Johnny, Maybe I was wrong too..." SHE WAS WRONG? For being angry that he dumped her and now she won't let him kiss her after 3 years of absence and one hour back in her company????
Thank goodness our romance Heroines have a LOT more backbone...you think??? She should have made HIM grovel and beg her forgiveness.....let him hang for a bit.....

One other "story" was about a young woman who married but wasn't quite thrilled with all the housework she had to do. New DH, of course, was "understanding" at first, but then started eating out more and working later. It wasn't until she "grew up", cleaned the house to his "satisfaction" and had the meal ready for him when he walked into the door that she was the recipient of the love that was his to give. The title was "The Awakening".

Oh sure, the awakening of married servitude they meant. Give me heroines of Gena Showalters, Awaken Me Darkly, or LKH's Anita Blake. Those women would have made mincemeat of the guys in these storys.

Oh, the one titled His Lips Or None..well that was geeky.
Jock and sweatheart going out in college. Jock needs tutoring and the tutor, "Art' is now tagging along everywhere the jock goes because Mr. Jock needs to be tutored between practices and such. Art's become the good friend. *sense where this is going, don't you?*
Roby, the girl, (what kind of name is Roby anyway?) believes it's His lips or none, meaning Hank the Jock. But, suddenly there appears a "childhood sweatheart" from Hank's past that isn't so childish anymore but the real thing.(really? Can a jock know the real thing?) Do you think he tells Roby? Nope, just goes along with the new girl. One day Roby has to run and CATCH him to say.."what's wrong?". Oh, gee, been meaning to tell you , you've been a lot of fun but I never really asked you to marry me ....." *sigh* and so it goes. Roby cries, mopes in room, Art comes to visit her...( IN HER BEDROOM!)and takes her out to dinner to "make her feel better", which OF COURSE she does. Then he announces, that he loves her! Loves her with all his heart..kisses her and this "strange glow" she feels inside suddenly must be TRUE LOVE!! WOW! Who knew? They have a HEA.

Like I said....We've come a long way, now we kick-A$$!!

Ciao

1953 TimeWarp

Below is a scan (I'm playing with a new toy) of a page of entertainment history that I found. It is from TEMPO, a mini magazine that only cost 10 cents in 1953. The size is 8" X 6". Truly mini.
I don't know how to blow it up further, but I'm sure you're curious as to the woman.

pages from a 1953 mini magazine Posted by Picasa
It says, "Belly dancer Nedjla Ates, when asked how it feels to perform in nightclubs while people are eating:
** I don't know. When I dance, nobody eats.**"

She was performing at N.Y.C.'s Latin Quarter. Is that cool or what???

Here are some other quotes from the pages above :

Marilyn Monroe, on her new co-star, Robert Mitchum: "Mitchum is a real man. They never let me have one before in pictures. It's like playing tennis. You have to have somebody to throw the ball back."

Mrs. Jovanka Broz, on her method of avoiding domestic disturbances with her husband, Yugoslavia's Marshal Tito: "I give in -always."

Woman shipboard passenger, when Mrs. John Hughes revealed that her husband was the U.S. representative to NATO: "What is the climate like in Nato??"

Crooner Dick Haymes, after his marriage to actress Rita Hayworth when asked if he knew she could cook: "Who marries Rita Hayworth for her cooking?"

These last two I thought were the cutest:

A columbus, Ohio, marriage clerk, on why he waived the five-day waiting period for one couple who applied for a license: "After all, when a man is 83 and his girl is 73, they've waited long enough."

Poet Ogden Nash, on his art: "What I do is pick up poetry and bash its brains against the sidewalk."

Wow, now THAT's poetry!!!!!

Which one is your favorite? Do any of them rise your eyebrows??
For some of those "comments" I am SO glad we're not of those same opinions in 2005.
There is so much more little gems in this magazine. Would you like to see more? Let me know.
Until next time.......

Childhood Revisited -Do You Remember??

Ever wonder if the shows you watched on Saturday mornings when you were younger are as good now as they were then? Sometimes they are because they were made with various levels of humor and intent. Films/shows that had your parents laughing about something that went right over your head, but because the rest of the humor was aimed at you, parents were forgiven their "weird" sense of amusement.

Just to let you know...I was visiting Gena Showalter's BLOG who had a link to Kelli's BLOG.
It was Kelli who inspired me to pursue this road trip. I LOVE her site...it's a riot!

Today I am traveling back in time where Bubblegum music was king. Saturday morning cartoons were original and campy. May I present for your groaning pleasure.......

The Bugaloos!!!!! Theme Song Alert
Martha Rae -remember her? played the witch..can she Sing? Find out CLICK
Remember Sparky? The giant lightening Bug with the even Larger blinking butt??
He has his own ode sung by the Bugaloos ---Awwww....Click

....Here's one of the websites that I visited on my journey into the past. Bugaloos link.

Enjoy!

BTW- What do YOU remember about your favorite Saturday Morning shows? Do you even want to remember? Now that you are an adult.....are they better or worse?
For me? The Bugaloos was silly, campy...but find myself still bopping along to the tunes.....need the WORDS????
Need tunes to the words?? Music!!

If you actually take the time to investigate the links, I'd be THRILLED if you share your impressions of them with me.

WHEW!! It's Over

**** WOOHOO!!! My friend is alright and no one is hurt!!!! ****
Thank you, everyone, who kept her and her family in your
thoughts and prayers. You are wonderful.

Remember last post I was talking about Incongruity??? Well, here's a picture that captures it well, unlike the previous post which may have shocked some people. Sorry about that. Of course, this might raise some eyebrows as well. But what the hay.....

Oh, I didn't make this. I got this off of the net. Make your own caption for it.

Do you remember me posting this beach photo? Makes you want to go on holiday, doesn't it?

On another note, I read a book today that I really struggled through. I mean, it was OK, but it seemed to drag at parts. I didn't think it was light hearted and I'm not sure if I really believed the premise they used to cause the necessary angst in the story. But as always...I say ..make your own opinions by reading it yourself. There were a few story gimmicks or subplots that could have been followed through on...I expected them to be...but nothing happend! Very frustrating. The ending....lame...happy of course since it IS a romance, but still, lame. The name of this book? IF THE SLIPPER FITS BY ELAINE FOX-click for review options from Amazon. I've read stories by Ms.Fox in the past and they've been enjoyable.....I am not able to say the same about this one. Sorry.

But, doesn't the cover look cute?

Remember, Don't judge a book by it's cover!

Have you????

Oh, You've GOT to read this one!

This is the cover to the book. I've read one story of Ms. Popp's before and I remember enjoying it. So, when I saw her name, the Cover AND the back blurb...well, buying it was a given.

OUT OF THE NIGHT - by Robin T. Popp
O00h LaLa!!
If you enjoy paranormal romance, or- forget the romance, just like paranormal...this one delivers. The link takes you to Amazon.com reviews. I can't say it any better. Most gave it 5 stars!!!! I would too. I just love the originality of it.

If you think you've seen all there is to be seen with regards to vampire romances.....think again..READ this and THEN you'll be up to date with the genre. I've not seen this creature mentioned in any books...Gargoyles, yes, but not what Ms. Popp writes of. And I enjoyed how she worked it into the story. Pure genius.

When you read it...you notice I said "when", let me know what YOU think. I'm itchin' to know.

Before I continue with the next book that I finished in 18 hours...

I would like to share a picture of incongruity that I found on the net. What do I mean? First, the Definition:
Incongruous: adj: not consistent with or suitable to the surroundings or associations: not harmonious, appropriate, or proper.

Second, the Example:
Or, A joke for the truly tasteless, i.e. not appropriate:
To prepare for his big date, a young man went to the rooftop of his apartment to work on his tan. Not wanting any tan lines, he sunbathed in the nude but fell asleep and burned his penis. Not wanting to miss out on his date with the hot blonde, he applied some ointment to his manhood and wrapped it in gauze.
The blonde showed up at his apartment, and after dinner they went into the living room to watch a movie.During the movie, the young man's sunburn began to hurt. After several minutes of extreme discomfort, he asked to be excused.
A friend had told him that milk was very effective in reducing sunburn pain. So he went to the kitchen, poured a tall glass of cold milk, and placed his sunburned member into the milk. He experienced immediate relief. The blonde, wondering what the young man was doing, wandered into the kitchen and found him with his shaft fully immersed in the glass of milk.
With a look of understanding the blonde exclaimed, "So that's how you load those things!" --

Now back to my second good read:

I want to mention a well known and beloved author of wonderful Scottish Highland alpha males. Her name is Karen Marie Moning. Her most recent visit to those wonderful Kelter Druids is SPELL OF THE HIGHLANDER. click on name for ratings from Amazon.

I could not put this book down. Of course, I couldn't put ANY of the books in the series down until I'd read them cover to cover. She is such a talented writer.
If you've read it, what's your favorite part?

As I'm sure you are aware, Hurricane Rita is about to wreck a swath of flooding and damage like Katrina. I have a friend in Louisiana that lived in an area of the state untouched by Katrina. Not so with Rita. She emailed me this morning.
And what she said has me very worried for her and her family.
Excerpt:

"Michele,
Rita is expected to slam us. Listen to your news this weekend. If you hear anything about East Texas, Ark-La-Tex, I-20, and Shreveport areas, that is us. Hurricane Rita is expected to stall over us for 3 days dumping 25-30 inches of rain. We are a little scared. They have not talked about evacuating yet. But where would we go, anyways? Everyone from Texas and down from New Orleans are in our shelters......."
......" This maybe the last e-mail probably until Tuesday. ...."

So, please keep my friend, her family and ALL folks about to be affected by another punch from mother nature, in your thoughts......
Until Tuesday comes...I won't know about my own friend.
What a humbling feeling.....
Truthfully? Worrying sucks.

So, What's on YOUR shelf???

I have quite the list yet to read, but I've put in a good dent. My favorite thing is to share what I've read. Ready? (oh, not in any particular order)

But first, I want to share a cool story. Well, for me it was cool.

Years ago, I had a friend , "D" I'll call her. We worked together for awhile and had some good times. Our life paths took us away from each other, and as happens in everyone's life, we lost touch completely. Each had gotten married, she had one child , I had 2. She's now separated, I'm still the big M. How do I know what's been happening in her life if I had lost touch like I said???
Woohoo! I met her today! After more than 7 years!!!!

It was totally bizarre. I was browsing at Barnes and Noble in a town I do not reside in...(Bought the new MJD book!!) and as I was leaving the Scifi/fantasy section, there was a woman behind the courtesy desk who "looked familiar" but with red hair. (her hair was a different back then) As I got closer I broke out in a grin. It was "D" and she hadn't seen me yet. All it took was "Hey there, stranger! How HAVE you been!!!!" It was so much fun!! Her eyes got wide, then came the answering smile and the quick jog around the desk to engulf me in a crushing hug. "OMG! How have YOU been??!! and from there it was like the world faded away, years faded away and the friendship, that special something that allows you to "click" with a certain someone, was there...like it never left. Hibernating if you will. It was a fast talking 5 minutes before the world and its reality butted in and took her with it. The reason why I labelled it bizarre wasn't just the fact that we met, and how it happened, but the realization that she has only been working there ONE WEEK!! Initially my plans had not included a stop at a book store, wasn't even on my radar. Isn't life wonderful? Who'd have thought our paths would cross again? Certainly not me. I love life!!!!

I also love reading..so here's my book parade:
And if you are interested in finding out snippets or reviews, I've attached links. Clink the highlighted, words or title, for a peek.

Storm Front is the first in a GREAT series.

I enjoyed these books immensely and would recommend them. Jim Butcher's the only male writer here because he's good. Gritty and different because it's a male's male POV. I like it.
The rest are fast, like 3 hours fast, reading for those times you just want to "escape" and have a good time.
Emma Holly's story is HOT, once again she writes some scenes that have male w/ male or female w/ female erotica and I don't mind. It went with the characters she wrote so was acceptable. *wink* MJD was sensual, good writing as usual but not as daring as Ms. Holly. Between the two, the spectrum of diverse human sexual relations is addressed. The last two? Well, "Drive Me Crazy" was full of laughs, happy endings and a few surprise elements. I thought I was reading a straight contemporary romance but I received a pleasant surprise. Made me glad I tried this author as I'd never read her before. I wonder if her other books are as good????
"For The Taking" was......fluff. The 4th book in a series that I had no idea was around. So, I ended up reading the end of the series. Talk about a$$ backwards..*grin* Did I like it? Yep.

All in all, had fun.
Just in case reading doesn't float your boat, here's an outright chuckle ( I HOPE)

Have a great Day!!! Toodles.

Another wolf story

Gee, I hope the last post didn't scare you away from my blog. Some people might've considered it a tad harsh. But like my headliner says, sometimes
it's a sounding board because everyone needs to vent. Boy! Did I vent!

Time to go back to my usual. Of course, I read another book.
To Tame a Wolf by Susan Krinard. I mostly enjoy her stories...there's always something that I wish were different....but I overlook it because as a whole, the stories are good. In this one, I fugured out the "holder of the map" early on...REALLY early on. It was just a matter of how and when it would be revealed. The tried and true technique, (.is that what it is called or does it have another name in the literary circles? ) use of a "soiled dove's" past catching up to her just when she thinks she can have an "ordinary" life somewhere else...you know.. the starting over again ploy, is utilized. No matter.....I like werewolf romances , I enjoy Susan Krinard's imagination..so I make allowances ....therefore, I enjoy the journey. Would I recommend this...sure.
The weird thing? I didn't know that HQN books is her publisher AND that it stands for Harlequin Romances!!!! For me, that's like Ketucky Fried Chicken now being called KFC,
like its a new idea or something....Heh, go figure.

Nice cover , where do they find such handsome wolves???

OK, time to shift gears again and go with some humor. Are you ready??
Some perception twists:
One:
Last night I wanted you. I needed you so badly it hurt. I wanted to taste you. I wanted you in me so you can work your magic on me, but I couldn't find you.
YOU STUPID PANADOL!

Two:
I shall seek you and find you. I shall take you to bed and control you. I will make you ache, shake and sweat until you grunt and groan.....
All my love,
The Flu

A bit of the Corny:

Subj: The Clock Repairman (S309) From: LABLaughs@LABLaughs.com on 1/1/2003

Harvey's grandfather clock suddenly stops working right one day, so he loads it into his van and takes it to a clock repair shop. In the shop is a little old man who insists he is Swiss, and has a heavy German accent. He asks Harvey, "Vat sims to be ze problem?"
Harvey says, "I'm not sure, but it doesn't go 'tick-tock- tick-tock' anymore. Now it just goes 'tick...tick...tick.'"

The old man says, "Mmm-Hm!" and steps behind the counter, where he rummages around a bit. He emerges with a huge flashlight and walks over the the grandfather clock. He turns the flashlight on, and shines it directly into the clocks face. Then he says in a menacing voice,
"Ve haf vays of making you tock!"

OH, BTW, Does anyone know a good recipe for corn bread? Where it's kind of sweet and moist. I like mine with a moist sticky top. (not a must however)
The recipes I've tried so far leave it dry and crumbly although tasty.
Oh, and please not ones that absolutely require a cast iron skillet to produce....I don't have one.

That's it for today. Light and airy.
Thanks for stopping by!

Warning-book spoiler and discussion/RANT

Hello Again!

Yeah, have I got a bone to chew with a book I read last night. . .

However, before I get into the nitty gritty and perhaps even get your ire up....allow me a moment to give those folks , who will decide not to read much farther as books --"just aren't their thing", -- a bit of humor. I book marked one of those Next Blog results that I spoke of in the previous post. 3-some had another post that was downright hilarious!!!
The title? Men vs. Women Check it out!

A humorous item for your viewing pleasure ....

NOW! For my book disucssion and spoiler... spoilers are where many of the points of the book that give the gist of it away are revealed. I"ll try not to go that far ....but I feel the need to vent. Today my blog is my sounding board.

The Book? If Angels Burn - A Novel of the Darkyn by Lynn Viehl

You need to understand, that I made a personal decision to NOT speak of religion on my blog. It is a turn off for many or it is a intimate subject for many.
That being said, because of this book, I am going to do it anyway....... you can stop right here if you want. No slight taken.

Read the short summary of the book if you want .
It is the summary that had me interested in reading it in the first place....I enjoy vampire romances...I just do.

In the first chapter, you are introduced to the 3 main names ....Alexandra - the surgeon, Her brother, John -the priest and Michael -the Darkyn. Luisa is a "motivator" character.
I will say that I fully expected to enjoy this book. Overall...I did. This was not mindless reading, however. I get to Chapter 2 and THAT is where my brain woke up and pulled the reins -whoa! I quote"As Cabreri prepared to administer Communion to the faithful, John went to kneel at the alter rail. Partaking of the symbolic body and blood of Christ was one of the most sacred rituals of the faith....."
For me, calling the body of Christ "symbolic" was like waving a red flag at a bull.

The author , throughout the book, wrote factually about the profession of the character...plastic surgeon. The medical jargon and techniques used were obviously derived from intense research on the authors part. She clearly wanted to give the reader a feel of "being there" and for the most part, she succeeded. She made many references to the Catholic religion and its ceremonies...going so far as to use the Latin names for the prayers and for protocol with visiting religious dignitaries. If she strove for such vigorous and realistic writing, she should have gotten the reality of Communion correctly. Why she didn't is beyond me. Perhaps she was basing what was written on research alone..without a Catholic faith background. Perhaps she was writing from her own incomplete experience with the Faith. OK, I'm getting preachy here......you can stop NOW if you want..... Or maybe she didn't want to rock the boat. She sure rocked mine.

As you can well imagine...I have a belief...and the urge to correct a myth. The Body of Christ is NOT symbolic. He is real . It may Look like bread, Taste like Bread, Feel like bread, but once the consecration takes place it becomes HIM. His Flesh, His Body. THAT is the miracle. That is the Faith. That is what makes Catholics different...Ok,..I'm being simplistic..there's a lot more to it ..... Have your hackles gotten a rise yet?
I think of things this way.... if the Host was NOT Him, why would Satanists try to steal it? To desecrate it and use it for their unholy purposes if there wasn't a truth to it? What could be more damning that actually using Christ's body in the worship of the enemy???? In my church, attempts to steal or sneak the Host, once consecrated, out of the church have been intercepted and thwarted. That's a lot of effort to steal a piece of "bread", don't you think?

Since that paragraph of the book, I began reading the rest on 2 levels. Yes, I finished the book. Yes it brought up many bones of contention but I only took on the one that felt most important for me to do so. Hence this blog.

Also, this book is not for the faint of heart. There is a torture scene that is more graphic than anything I've read yet from LKH. There are disturbing literary visuals that might make you cringe or put you off entirely.
By no means can this book be considered Boring!
By no means would I advise you not to read this...... please do! Make your own judgements.
Do not, however, expect a simple romance. It isn't there.
I was hoping for romance and I was given something else entirely.
Overall, this book was well written. If you like Angst... there is PLENTY.
If you like grit and realism....it has it. If you like strong women, Alexandra is.

The next book by Lynn Viehl will be PRIVATE DEMON and it continues with one of the characters you meet in this first book. You won't really "meet" him until the last few chapters, but the second book promises to be just a gritty as the first. Once you meet the character Thierry, you'll understand.

My gosh! Are you still reading this? You actually put up with my religious POV and made it to the end? Wow! Thanks. Um, I guess you are gonna leave a comment now, huh? Should I put armor on???

Since you made it this far,
the ending,

Here's a humor treat.

Thanks for sticking around for my rant.
I hope it will be a looong time
before I vent
like Vesuvius again.

Toodles!

The power of the NEXT BLOG button!!

OK, I did it! I was visiting Annalee's blog back in August and she had this comment about using the Next Blog button. I'd tried it once and wasn't overly interested. However, she got my curiosity working over time so I decided to test it again...BAD girl! BAAAD girl!
I had FUN! I wasted 3 hours of eyeball strain cruising and drifting where-ever "next' sent me. I was visiting Sweden, Brazil, Canada, China, United Kingdom and some on the home turf. You know what else is great? No Jet Lag!
I laughed hysterically at some of these from this website...some might be insulting, me being female and all...but taking it within the humorous context it was meant to be...see what YOU think by clicking HERE and also HERE . These will take you to "the ever dumdum Teddy Bear's" site "3-some". A male's perspective of things is just SO interesting!

Then I found an inspirational and informative account of , I think, a reporter experiencing the front lines in New Orleans with pictures you don't see on TV,
interested? Click HERE or another entry HERE . Some of the entries are kind of shocking or they inspire my empathy and concern. You can't come away from his blog without some type of opinion. See if you don't.

His latest post just blows my mind! Fax indeed....hurrmph!

Then I found a blog that has tons of pictures of ordinary life. I think every entry has a picture..some of them are really nice! One is a tad weird, but that's all a matter of perspective, isn't it?? Check him out
I couldn't pick a specific entry to focus on..he had so many cool pic's!!!

The one from China hit my funny bone although I am sure that it was NOT intentional. She was expressing her dissatisfaction of the over-hype of Disney in Hong Kong. She was tired of hearing about it. Heh...like WE don't get alot??
She even mention that she heard complaints of people not liking the waiting in lines for rides and was too crowded. THEN, she made the comment that "it is the feature of our society"...waiting in long lines" and" endless complaining about everything"... interesting insight! Of course, English entries were few..most were in her native language. I enjoyed the few English ones she had. Neat to see Chinese writing on my computer.

So, Have YOU ever tried the Next Blog button? If so, where in the world has it taken you??? AND, has it ever taken you to the same place twice???

For some reason, Blogger put 3 of these lovely rainbows when I only wanted one.
Oh,well..pretty is as pretty does.

Hope you find something of interest here today!
Thanks for visiting , and since it is Monday....Have
a great WEEK!!!!

Edit Update: I love this news. I'm a closet Johnny Depp fan and I found out some fun news...did you hear???
Check this link and Celebrate!. Looking forward now to 2006 and 2007..yippee!!!!!

Sombre Thoughts

I can't let today go by without thinking of those that were affected by what happened on this date. 9/11
Seems our country is being sorely tested. We'll perservere and find strength to deal with what is happening now as we did then. I pause, while writing this, to remember, to reflect and pray for those lost and those left behind.
Add to that, the survivors of Katrina...and those lost in its tragedy. America's strength is her people. May we remember that.

Its Friday-Brain on VACATION

Didn't want too many days to go by without a new post.
I have nothing to say.
Shocking isn't it?

I think I'll let the "force" of humor speak today.....besides, it TGIF! (um, today giggles in force?)

Subj: Pickup Lines Used At Star Wars Line (S260b) From: Cypriot@Concentric.net on 1/18/2002
PICKUP LINES OVERHEARD WHILE WAITING IN LINE FOR STAR WARS

"Hey, beautiful. What's a nice girl like you doing waiting in line without bathing for 10 days?"

"Your place or my Mom's?"

"I ... uh ... ummm ... I ... uh ... (slaps own forehead) Stupid! STOO-pid!"

"You're even prettier than my fantasy girlfriend."

"I may look like an Ewok, but I'm all Wookie where it counts, baby."

"Date, or date not -- There is no let's just friends be."

"If you only knew the power of the Dork Side."

"How's about a long time of Joe, in a bedroom not far away?"

"Nice buns, princess! On your head, that is."

"Honey, you've been looking for love in Alderaan places!"

"If I said you had a mint first-edition, still-in-the-box action figure, would you hold it against me?"

.................... "I'm gonna be an evil warlord when I grow up. Want a Milk Dud?"

Subj: Top 11 Things Uttered by Yoda While Making Love (S181) From: Bawdy.Net Collage #319 on 7/16/00

11. "Ahhh! Yoda's little friend you seek!"
10. "Urm. Put a shield on my saber I must."
9. "Feel the force!"
8. "Foreplay, cuddling -- a Jedi craves not these things."
7. "Down here, I am. Find a ladder, I must!"
6. "Do me or do me not -- there is no try."
5. "Early must I rise. Leave now you must!"
4. "Happens to every guy sometimes this does."
3. "When 900 years old you get, Viagra you need too, hmmmmm?"
2. "Ow, ow, OW! On my ear you are!"
1. "Who's your Jedi master? WHO'S your Jedi Master?"

Duct tape is like "the force." It has a light side; It has a dark side; and it hold the universe together .

Unfortunately, sometimes, the force just isn't enough. (or maybe I should say Too much???)

Have a great weekend!!!

Flips sides

I titled today "flip sides", due to the intent to mention something sort of sad, then
something fluffy.

Sad is the news about Gilligan...remember him? Bob Denver? I grew up watching
Gilligan's Island and I watch the reruns when I can. My DH can't stomache the show....it's too smarmy and unrealistic with grit-your-teeth/roll your eyes campy humor. Precisely why I LOVED it when I was growing up. Now, well, I can see the flaws...but they reveled in them, exploited them even because the series was a reason to have fun. You are never too old to be silly. Silly balances the crap that life dishes out sometimes.
Many of the websites I visit have mentioned Katrina. I can't add anything to what already has been eloquently said. I blame no one. I'm dealing with it. I have donated to the Red Cross and I do intend to give blood when a bloodmobile comes to my town...and if the local schools do a drive to collect necessary items I'll do that too.......enough said.

Haven't heard the news? Check HERE FOR BOB'S STORY

The Fluff I mentioned? A fun read. Have you ever heard of Kate Moore?
I guess she's known for writing regencys. Since, as a rule, I hardly read them, I didn't know about this author. I just finished her first contemporary romance and I have to say...there were some unusual elements.

What happened to the mayor at the end...well, the end justified the means. I'm still giggling about that. Loved the dog. Even the dog is a player in the story.
I enjoyed the secondary characters. I liked how she wrote the "bad" guy(s) and I enjoyed the prose she used to describe the little town and its citizens.
