So, What's on YOUR shelf???

I have quite the list yet to read, but I've put in a good dent. My favorite thing is to share what I've read. Ready? (oh, not in any particular order)

But first, I want to share a cool story. Well, for me it was cool.

Years ago, I had a friend , "D" I'll call her. We worked together for awhile and had some good times. Our life paths took us away from each other, and as happens in everyone's life, we lost touch completely. Each had gotten married, she had one child , I had 2. She's now separated, I'm still the big M. How do I know what's been happening in her life if I had lost touch like I said???
Woohoo! I met her today! After more than 7 years!!!!

It was totally bizarre. I was browsing at Barnes and Noble in a town I do not reside in...(Bought the new MJD book!!) and as I was leaving the Scifi/fantasy section, there was a woman behind the courtesy desk who "looked familiar" but with red hair. (her hair was a different back then) As I got closer I broke out in a grin. It was "D" and she hadn't seen me yet. All it took was "Hey there, stranger! How HAVE you been!!!!" It was so much fun!! Her eyes got wide, then came the answering smile and the quick jog around the desk to engulf me in a crushing hug. "OMG! How have YOU been??!! and from there it was like the world faded away, years faded away and the friendship, that special something that allows you to "click" with a certain someone, was there...like it never left. Hibernating if you will. It was a fast talking 5 minutes before the world and its reality butted in and took her with it. The reason why I labelled it bizarre wasn't just the fact that we met, and how it happened, but the realization that she has only been working there ONE WEEK!! Initially my plans had not included a stop at a book store, wasn't even on my radar. Isn't life wonderful? Who'd have thought our paths would cross again? Certainly not me. I love life!!!!

I also love reading..so here's my book parade:
And if you are interested in finding out snippets or reviews, I've attached links. Clink the highlighted, words or title, for a peek.

Storm Front is the first in a GREAT series.

I enjoyed these books immensely and would recommend them. Jim Butcher's the only male writer here because he's good. Gritty and different because it's a male's male POV. I like it.
The rest are fast, like 3 hours fast, reading for those times you just want to "escape" and have a good time.
Emma Holly's story is HOT, once again she writes some scenes that have male w/ male or female w/ female erotica and I don't mind. It went with the characters she wrote so was acceptable. *wink* MJD was sensual, good writing as usual but not as daring as Ms. Holly. Between the two, the spectrum of diverse human sexual relations is addressed. The last two? Well, "Drive Me Crazy" was full of laughs, happy endings and a few surprise elements. I thought I was reading a straight contemporary romance but I received a pleasant surprise. Made me glad I tried this author as I'd never read her before. I wonder if her other books are as good????
"For The Taking" was......fluff. The 4th book in a series that I had no idea was around. So, I ended up reading the end of the series. Talk about a$$ backwards..*grin* Did I like it? Yep.

All in all, had fun.
Just in case reading doesn't float your boat, here's an outright chuckle ( I HOPE)

Have a great Day!!! Toodles.

My TBR pile is out of control. And there's no time to tame it. I'm currently reading an HQN titled, MONTANA BLUE. It's a little slow starting out, but rich in character and detail. I'm on page 50.

"So, What's on YOUR shelf???"

Over 200 books at the last count. And that's after getting rid of over half - painful experience - just before I moved into last month. And yes I do count them. And catelogue them. For my insurance company - in case of fire and they have to be replaced. Not because I'm obsessive/compulsive. Absolutely not. (Excuse me, some pens are out of alignment on my desk...)

Anyway, in my current "Being read" pile are:

Cloud Atlas by David Mitchell - I can't recommend this book highly enough. It's fantastic. His previous book Number9Dream is one of my favourites, but Cloud Atlas is much superior. I'm only a few chapters in, so I can't say what it's about, but do read this.

The Corrections by Jonathan Frazer - got a few chapters in and haven't met a character I have any empathy with. Bad sign.

Zen in the Art of Writing by Ray Bradbury - Great collection of essays on writing by a fantastic writer.

The Illustrated Man - a great collection of short stories by a fantastic writer.

To Wake the Dead by Ramsey Campbell - Campbell is the best horror writer from England, if not the West. Seriously disturbing stories with characters who could step out of the book they are that real.

The Princess Bride by William Goldman - part fairy tale, part biography. Bloody brilliant. Bought it to read to my year-old nephew.

The Face of the Third Reich by Joachim C Fest - an another analysis of how the Third Reich was supported by the German population.

Two volumes of Plato's Dialogues.

And The Elements of Drama - a book on playwriting.

And I'm just starting How to Write a Short Film.

And I wonder why I never find time to write...

Michele,

MONTANA BLUE UPDATE:

I have to admit I'm struggling with Montana Blue. I love narrative, don't get me wrong, but this book has LOTS of it. I'm gonna finish it, but it's a tough read **for me**. One thing I admire about this writer is she's gifted. Her prose is very visual and descriptive.

Tanya,
Is the relationship with the characters well developed enough to compensate for the verbose narration?
I'll be interested in the final account because then when I read it...I'm going to be more aware...which is a good thing. You are very savvy in writing so I am looking forward to reading your recommendation.
Thanks for the update!!!!

Michelle,

I'm having a REALLY hard time getting into this book. The relationships aren't really that interesting because I'm so bogged down by all the narration and backstory that it's difficult to really sink my teeth into the hero. Ooops. That didn't come out right, did it? LOL!

I really enjoyed reading "The Miracles of Santo Fico" by D.L. Smith. It was an impulse purchase that payed off. Thanks for stopping by and commenting at my place.

Tanya, you're not giving up on Montana Blue are you?
I bet you could write it better!
As far as "sinking teeth".LOL, maybe it would liven things up???

I Tried a Book Out of My Comfort Zone

Sometimes, reading out of my comfort zone is ... well, uncomfortable. The blurb of the book sounded rather interesting. The Fate of Mercy ...
