Supreme Court
Connecticut
WASHINGTON (AP) -- The Supreme Court on Thursday ruled that local governments may seize people's homes and businesses -- even against their will -- for private economic development............ Above link tells whole story.

This is very disturbing to me. I feel like one of our basic rights have been tampered with.
I do not usually do anything political. But CT is just over our border. Too close to home to ignore what these people were fighting against and lost. I feel the need to vent, so here I am.
All the villans that are in the books we read and write are based on a true aspect of human nature. I can see this travesty being be visited upon people who have "prime" property that perhaps has been in their families for generations but currently without the funds to defend themselves. With the vote of the town/city and the stereotypical developer as the behind the scenes villain (which DOES happen btw), that family land will be deemed a location as "of vital importance to the economic integrity of the area" and said landowners will be steamrolled out of the picture. This seems to sound the death knell to local family histories in small local communities and , dare I say, the beginning of the end to the "middle class" as we've known it. Am I being melodramatic? Alarmist?......don't think so. How many countrys in this world have YOU heard about where the few (rich) control the many (everyone else) . *sigh* I thank God that I live in this county, however screwy things get....because with the first admendment, I still am able to vent, rant and act like Chicken Little as I just have.....and maybe...just maybe....the decision someday can be overturned...even if it is a Supreme Court decision.
*whew* I feel a tad better. Thank you for baring with me. Next blog will be totally fluff.

Rant on, honey because I'm ticked about this too. Who do these people think they are anyway? Where are we living? Cuba? Is this the United States of America, or the Banana Republic? UNbelievable! The train has left the station and there's no one driving it.

Thank you SO much, Tanya, for your comment. It means a lot.
Frankly, I'm relieved that I'm not alone in feeling the way I do.
BTW, enjoyed your site yesterday, it was fun!

Michele,

Little by little, our rights are being stripped away. It reminds me about the old frog in the pot addage. He doesn't realize the water's boiling until it's too late.

Thanks Janie!
I appreciate your stopping by. I had a further thought about this over the weekend. I recently read Spellbound by Rebecca York. The basis for the bad guy was that oil was discovered and certain individuals in political office were plotting to get rid of the main character for the land so they could exploit the oil. This was written before the ruling. Just think, the protagonist now, would WIN against the land owner! They wouldn't have to scheme any longer. All they needed to claim was that the development of the natural resource would benefit the town economically with jobs and influx of good ol' money for the town's infrastructure... and wham! the end of generations held land. OK, that may be simplifying things but I understand that is the general gist of it. There's a reason that greed was listed as one of the 7 mortal sins and the Supreme Court just opened the door and set out the welcome mat WITH a red carpet besides....grrrrrr.

Oh, and Tanya, I remember that saying. They used it in Dante's Peak, that volcano movie with Pierce Brosnan. Gee wasn't land greed (IE $$$), Town vs. People, the main conflict that caused all those needless deaths in the film....?
That premise wouldn't work so well if it wasn't based on real human nature.......*sigh*

Thanks Bonnie, I can only try. At least I'm not putting you to sleep!
Political diatribe has been known to cure my insomnia...

Oh, that is eerie, Janie. That sounds like "The Great Agenda" very subversive buy effective, much to our detriment. OK, that may give me insomnia tonight....

I Meant BUT effective, BUT.....although 'buy" is what they do too. Must have been a Freudian finger burp.

Sometimes, reading out of my comfort zone is ... well, uncomfortable. The blurb of the book sounded rather interesting. The Fate of Mercy ...
