I finally saw the movie

The second Pirates of the Carribean.

The verdict? My DH hated it. Said it was too weird, strange, creepy and didn't draw him into the story.

Me, well, I still think Depp is wonderful at playing the character. Bloom was bloomin' wonderful.

I believe the story was plot driven, not character. I am under the impression that the movie hung on visuals and gimmicks and was short on personal interaction. The ONLY time I felt some kind of emotion was the scene between father and son.

I sincerely hope that the third installment will deliver because at this point, I don't care if you-know-who comes back or not. Savvy?

BTW- did anyone see the END end of the movie??? What a bone ... teehee.

Oh, you do NOT want to get me started on PotC2. I saw that movie the first or second week it was out & I'm STILL pissed over it! That ending was a cheat. I didn't know it would be such a cliffhanger.

You're right about plot driven. I also felt a bit bad for anyone who had not seen the first PotC because there were a lot of jokes & references from it.

I was skocked to see CN come back. Loved the special effects, although skeletons walking underwater was just as cool and no where near as disgusting.

And poor doggie...next blue plate. That aggravated me a tad too, no real clues there. The monkey at the end of the first let you know something.

I do like the new Voudon Priestess, but I'm a little upset the black girl from the crew was eaten, I liekd her, she was plucky. Also, there's the downfall of the Priestess that I can't concentrate on her narative because i'm too consumed by her black teeth. Did anyone else find that way too distracting?

Overall, not too bad, but I was more pissed than pleased.

I haven't seen it yet. I thought I would wait for the DVD. And that's because I didn't care much for the first. Just not my type of thing I guess. But I'm willing to make a sacrifice when it comes to Johnny. So adorable.

She was eaten??? How did I miss that? You're right. A waste of a good character.
And right again about the black teeth. I was almost expecting her to start drooling ,just to get that stuff out of her mouth!

Yep, I found myself lip reading although I was able to tear my eyes away from her teeth to view her buxomness and pretty tattoos around her eyes. She is a nice character, but hard to understand. I wish I had earphones and a rewind button to catch everything.
LOL re: Blue Plate special. Where's PETA? LOL
I love the fact that there's a disclaimer in the film credits that no animals or sea creatures were harmed in the making of the movie.
What about our expectations?
LOL
Thanks for dropping by Mitch!

Haven't seen it yet. Dh liked the first, but the only draw for me was Johnny Depp. I have no desire to see the 2nd, though I know the kids and Dh want to. I'm glad we were waiting for the DVD rental.

Darn! I didn't see the end-end of the movie. I'll have to go back! Actually, I was thinking of it anyway. I liked the movie enough to spring for it twice. Still, my thoughts are a lot like yours. I really enjoyed the movie, but I didn't feel as if there was any additional character development. It was just an adventure, and unfinished at that. It sure worked for me wondering what is coming in number 3.

I still haven’t seen this movie, Michele. Loved, LOVED, the first one. Of course, I love watching just about anything Johnny is in, no matter how bad the movie. I’ve heard so much negative about this sequel (including the fact that people hated the ending) that it really makes me curious…and a little apprehensive. :-/ Since I’ve waited this long, I’ll probably just wait until it comes out on DVD.

Forgot to mention I HATED the first PotC! Okay, maybe hate is a bit strong, but I didn't catch it until it hit DVD & I didn't get what all the hype was. I didn't live up to my expectations, but the more I saw it, the more I grew to like it.

As for the spunky girl from the first one being eaten, there wasn't a scene of it, but when Will asked where the rest of the crew was, Mr. Tibs comments about the cages they're in. (trying to not give too much away for those who haven't seen)

Haven't seen it yet because I never get to the movies (it's been just about a year since I've been to one), so am still waiting for the DVD and will watch it then, cliff hanger or not.

I didn't like the 1st one, but after hearing that this one had the "highest grossing opening weekend of all time"...I bit the dust and saw it.

I didn't like this one either. I dunno what made it so "special" that it became the box office champion of the summer.

I would take "Snakes on a Plane" anyday. That movie was fantastic.

I haven't seen the second one yet. I loved the first one though :)

Awww, I loved it. It was mindless fun! I agree that the first was better but I still loved this one.

i'ven't seen the second one..
And Michele,how's you?

Wow, I am amazed as to how many of you haven't seen the movie yet. I'm usually the LAST one to see anything. I end up going to see a movie when it's on its last legs, if I'm lucky.

Cali - Johnny is a good reason for most of the time spent watching a movie he's in.

Brandy - DVD waiter - popular intent.

Annalee! You're going back? Wow. I will say that while you are waiting for the End-end of the movie, listening to the musical score is a treat. Of anything I'll buy, its the movie sound track. Loved it!

Kailana! Hi Again :-) - You're in good company!

Daisy - Yes, wait for the DVD - then you can fast-forward to the End-end and see the last scene.

Mitch - OOOOH, The 'cages'..that was funny actually. LOL
I missed that line, probably because I had to keep a running commentary for the oldest boy. He had lots of questions and like a good Mom, I had them. I just missed certain lines and I guess that was one of them. Thanks!

Bailey - DVD - cheaper in the long run. You don't have to spend $5.00 bucks on a lousy bag of popcorn that's contaminated with peanuts and causes a systemic reaction that requires immediate application of Benyldryl.
Yes, wait for the DVD.

Rayke - I've heard Snakes on a plane is good. I should have seen that one, but you don't take kids to that kind of flick. Guess you're not going to rent the DVD of PofC, eh? LOL

Bonnie, Hi! - I agree, there was much in the first one that drew you into the story, the least of which was the interaction between Turner and the Captain. *grin*
After reading all these comments, are you going to wait for the DVD too?

Mailyn - Howdy hi! You "loved" it? Wow, that bucks the trend. So, like, share your favorite. What tipped it to the positive side for you?
We need some balance, Mailyn and you're just the lady to do it!

I haven't seen it yet either. But, as others have mentioned, for Johnny and Orlando it might be worth it, but any comments on whether it is "big screen" movie or would be okay on DVD?

Michele said...

Hmmm, good question, Nancy.
I'd say DVD on a big TV screen, LOL.

Truly, the cinematography on the island with the natives is beautiful. For THAT, I'd see it big screen.

For the story itself? DVD quality.
IMHO

LMAO! Well, I'm one of those people that just expects mindless fun and action from a summer popcorn flick. I think if people try to get something deeper than that they would be dissapointed. This isn't Shakespeare. LOL. But I thought it was fun. I loved the pirates, I loved Depp [so damn funny], I laughed, I loved the quest type deal, shoot, what's not to love?

Loved it!

Michele said...

True, I did laugh quite a bit. And you know what, Mailyn..? The kiss... now that KISS was worth the big screen. What did you think of THAT?
