Wallace & Gromit, YEAH!!!!

Today was FUN!!!!!
How fun was it?
We went to see Wallace and Gromit and the Curse of The Were-Rabbit. It was so cute!
I could have done without the penguin story first. It wasn't so thrilling, but kids seemed to like it well enough..

I enjoyed the Cheese box that said "Includes NUTS"....since I have a family member sensitive to peanuts...it was a clever use of allergy warning packaging. See the movie to understand.

LOVED the Hair-do on the dweeb. I prefer the "do" on Uncle Giz from Rollie Pollie Ollie. But this was good too...*giggling like a nut here*
I also enjoyed Wallaces' penchant for solving problems with Science! He would make Bill Nye the Science Guy proud.....And last but not least...Tottie and HER hair.....Oh, I'm waiting for my sides to stop hurting from laughing so much. YUP, I can see why critics rated it A- , I agree.

Prior to the movie...we took a tour of REAL LIFE after 5 inches of rain...wow.! I took my family to a "new" spot to see the overflow action over a dam. Had a great view. My Dad, who has lived in the area all his life, never knew about this area. I was pleased to share something new with my Dad. Ah, such as this are memories made.

First, this site comes from an area known by the quaint name of Jone's Ferry. No one has ever researched why it is called that. But I've always known it thus.

Anyway, there is usually a maze of docks that boats are tied to. As you can see, 5 inches of rain within one day's time sure has made an impact. This is all that is left of the docks. One is wrapped around another. I was about 5 feet from the water when I took this.

This is the Holyoke Dam. It has survived 2 major hurricanes so far. The last was in the 1950's. Usually, you can walk across the area that this picture encompasses...not today!

This is a picture from ABOVE the dam. Just after I took this picture, a portion of a dock from a marina further up the river made it past the barriers and flowed down and over. The power and sound of the onrushing water cannot be captured in a picture. Imagine something solid going over, and once swept beyond the backwash, only pieces and floating debris are left. Very impressive and it once again reinforced my respect for mother nature.....

I spoke of the barrier. This is it.
It is supposed to "catch" large debris. You know, like Boats, Docks, Trees.....debris.

You can't really see it...but to the left, 1/4 up the pole that intersects with the tree is a splash of white next to an orange barrel. THAT is a boat. How long will it stay there? Who knows. Some boats weren't so lucky. They were swept over and were seen floating 3 towns down in the river. This is only a teensy, weensy, smidgen of a taste of what those hurricane victims went through in LA. Fortunately for us, the dikes are steel enforced around here. It's an amazing feat of archtitechture.......
So, that's my day. I saw a boat from the U.S. Geological Survey being launched. I took a picture but I was asked NOT to put it in the papers. I guess posting it here would qualify as the same thing. *sigh*...it was a cool pic too. Most were young virile men with a job to do. Fight the flow of the river as they traveled up to take reading on a flow meter located under a bridge. Dangerous work. One was told... ".....You take Debris"....meaning it was the young man's job to spot potential water hazards that would flip their boat. Talk about pressure!!!!!

Anyway.....How was YOUR day?????

P.S. I just came from my Library's book sale. The one I was waiting for. I got 22 books for $16.50..is that good or what? Samples of Author names are....drum roll please.........

LOL, Close enough.....
Susan Sizemore, Karen Marie Moning, Julia Quinn, Lori Foster, Linda Howard, Elaine Fox, Christina Skye, Shannon Drake, Kelly McClymer, Carly Phillips, Jennifer Crusie, Amanda Ashley and Jayne Ann Krentz. There are some awesome ones in here...I was in literary heaven. *sigh*....The sale lasts all week. Think I should go back for more?....*grin*

So far, good. Slept late and now doing laundry like a fiend. Great news is, FALL IS HERE! It's cool out today. YEA! Wondered about the movie. DO you think it's OK to take a 3 year old?

I think the evil poodle in the penguin sequence would give a kid nightmares. All that teeth! And buggy eyes.
Hmmmm, Every 3 yr old child is different. What may freak out one, is considered nonchalantly by another. You know your little one the best. How's that for a nonanswer????

I spent my day slaving over a storyboard. I'm trying to plot a book that won't cooperate. Now I have a headache. ARGH. I'm hoping the muse will scamper back and have mercy on me.

Thanks a lot! j/k. Well, I guess I'll have to see. He likes Spiderman and watching his dad play the 'sims' game, with spells and stuff. He's also seen the Harry Potter movies. Hmmmm. Tough decision.(my vote on the HP movies didn't count)

Hi Michele,

Good that you went to see Wallace & Gromit it looks good. Thanks for the pictures of the flooding it's good to see what we talked about...Yesterday the studio in St Phillips where Wallace & Gromit was made near where my mum & dad live in Bristol burnt down. This is very sad because all the artwork sets & scripts for Wallace & gromit & Nick Parks other animation was iretrievably lost, what a shame. On a day that should have been a celebration as well....

Hi, Michele. I guess this is what you call a tag-back? I swear that last time I checked your profile, which was only a few weeks ago, you didn't have nearly as much info posted there--let alone a blog link. Maybe somehow my browser wasn't refreshing the page or something. (Still connecting via Blackberry here--I'm on the other side of the country from home, at the Sportsmen's Lodge in L.A.) Anyway, the truth is out--you have far more "fans" than I do! Now I don't feel guilty about taking so long to stop by!

Hope you wrestle that story board back into submission soon!

LOL, Brandy.
My kids have seen LOTS of movies, sci-fi mostly, due to my DH's excitment to share them as soon as possible. Now, I just shake my head ..... Thank goodness for the FastForward button....

I Tried a Book Out of My Comfort Zone

Sometimes, reading out of my comfort zone is ... well, uncomfortable. The blurb of the book sounded rather interesting. The Fate of Mercy ...
